The only way to experience the full, incredible story of Llechwedd

Starting with a thrilling journey to the furthest reaches of the site, prepare to be surrounded by the stunning history of Llechwedd! On your thrilling travels, you'll visit

• Maenofferen - the best preserved example of a slate mill in the world (and one of the largest underground operations in the area)
• Diffwys Casson - relics of an old steam mill (the oldest in Wales), and the first mill to produce slate for roofing - the home of the slate revolution in Wales.
• Foty & Bowydd - get up close with some of the open chambers, previously hidden hundreds of feet below the surface and take in views across Snowdonia.

Some of these sites are over 300 years old, and showcase some of the finest examples of buildings and machinery used for Victorian mining anywhere in the world!

If the weather is in your favour, keep an eye out for Harlech Castle, the Dwyryd estuaryand the Snowdon horseshoe - all of which are visible from the highest point of the tour.

Taking around an hour and a quarter, the tour concludes with one of our famous hot chocolates, whilst your guide for the day takes you through what to expect on the next leg of your adventure…

After your rest stop, it’s time to catch a train! Descending 500 feet into the Llechwedd Deep Mine (the deepest accessible area of Llechwedd), your guide will lead you through ten massive subterranean chambers, highlighting the incredible stories of the miners and the difficult working environment they had to endure.

On the journey you’ll learn of the rich 200 year history of mining at Llechwedd, as well how some of the chambers are now used to mature local Welsh cheese. The tour concludes with an award winning light and sound display at the underground lake.

Back on the surface, your tour will conclude with a slate splitting demonstration by your guide.
