Llechwedd Donates Food and Presents
Following the recent announcements and new COVID regulations from the Welsh Government, Llechwedd have made the devastating decision to cancel its sold-out Christmas tours – with the surplus Christmas presents being distributed to the community through local companies.
After an uncertain year, Llechwedd decided to pull out all the stops for a unique, underground Santa’s Grotto and Winter wonderland in the famous Deep Mine near Blaenau Ffestiniog, the finishing touches of which were put in place just this week.
Unfortunately, after the recent Welsh Government COVID announcements, it was not legal to operate the Christmas grotto – which had sold out in record time, leaving thousands of children and grownups disappointed and Llechwedd as an indoor attraction closed until 2021.
The team at Llechwedd have worked incredibly hard over recent weeks and months in order to deliver a memorable experience and because of the new rules were left with hundreds of presents from Santa with no homes to go to.
In an effort to rescue some of the festive cheer, Llechwedd has teamed up with Y Dref Werdd and Banc Bwyd Blaenau to deliver these presents to residents of Blaenau Ffestiniog and the surrounding area in time for Christmas.
Michael Bewick, Managing Director at Llechwedd said: ‘We were extremely sad that our underground Santa’s Grotto was unable to go ahead this year.’
‘Thanks to the hard work of the team here at Llechwedd, we were confident that we had a memorable Christmas experience for the thousands of children who were due to arrive across December.’
‘We are however, thrilled to be able to support our local communities by distributing the unused Christmas presents from the grotto, as well as food and drink from our café and shop, via the amazing volunteers at Y Dref Werdd and Banc Bwyd Blaenau.’
‘We’d also like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a safe and very Merry Christmas. We can’t wait to welcome you back to Llechwedd in the New Year.’
